• Drumbeats (AUS) Bay, 2005, 16.1hh

Drumbeats is a horse who brings together pedigree, performance and type – a dual Group winning son of the great Redoute’s Choice from an excellent family

One of his champion sire’s 89 stakes winners Drumbeats, a $350,000 Easter yearling, displayed immediate ability for Darley. Flemington placed at his only two-year-old start, he was in great form at three, at only his second career outing a game second in the Gr.2 Roman Consul Stakes.

Back in Melbourne for his next start the Peter Snowden trained bay found plenty of trouble in the Listed Gothic Stakes – pushed off the track prior turn only to show good heart to storm home for a half length second to subsequent Gr.1 winner Heart Of Dreams.

Breaking through at Listed level at only his fourth start, Drumbeats again had to overcome a chequered passage in the Springtime Stakes but was just too strong.

Given the autumn off, Drumbeats reappeared the following spring – at only his second run in winning the Gr.2 Shannon Stakes. Continuing to prove competitive in the best of company, he was a close up fifth in the Gr.1 Epsom, fourth in the Gr.1 Doncaster, third in the Gr.2 Theo Marks (behind More Joyous) and third in the Gr.2 Crystal Mile. And during his final campaign last spring, he added to his tally the Gr.3 Bill Ritchie Handicap.

Drumbeats is one of an incredible 25 winners from 29 runners bred on the outstandingly successful Redoute’s Choice/Last Tycoon cross that results in a duplication of the great mare Best In Show.

We all know what a great sire Redoute’s Choice is with his 21 Gr.1 winners. And now he is turning out to be an influential sire of sires, already ten of his sons – Stratum, Snitzel, Not a Single Doubt, Nadeem, Bradbury’s Luck, Al Samer, Duelled, Fast 'N' Famous, God's Own and Coats Choice – siring stakes winners.

Last Tycoon meanwhile keeps proving his worth as a broodmare sire with a mammoth 135 stakes winners including 26 Gr.1 winners.

Drumbeats is from Delicate Choice, daughter of Gr.1 VRC Oaks and Gr.1 1000 Guineas victor Arborea – dam of with six winners including the tough Delta Form who won at Gr.2 level in the US (also twice Gr.1 placed) and at Listed level in South Africa.

    Drumbeats To Stand At Lyndhurst

    Drumbeats To Stand At Lyndhurst

Redoute’s Choice and Last Tycoon - Two great stallion influences of recent times who excel by themselves – and who absolutely soar when brought together.

Which is why Lyndhurst Stud Farm is delighted to announce their new stallion for 2011 – the impeccably bred Drumbeats (pictured).

An outstanding first season sire prospect, Drumbeats has it all – pedigree, performance and type.

A particularly good looking son of Redoute’s Choice, he is one of his sire’s 71 stakes winners and what a talented galloper he was.

A horse who caught the eye from day one – Woodlands laying down $350,000 at Easter for the well related colt – Drumbeats showed immediate ability for Darley.

Flemington placed at his only two-year-old start (catching the eye with a strong late finish after a tardy start), he was in great form at three, at only his second career outing a game second in the Gr.2 Roman Consul Stakes.

Back in Melbourne for his next start the Peter Snowden trained bay found plenty of trouble in the Listed Gothic Stakes – pushed off the track prior turn only to show good heart to storm home for a half length second to subsequent Group 1 Australian Guineas winner Heart Of Dreams.

Breaking through at Listed level at only his fourth start, Drumbeats again had to overcome a chequered passage in the Springtime Stakes but he was just too strong.

Given the autumn off, Drumbeats reappeared the following spring – at only his second run in winning the Gr.2 Shannon Stakes, leading throughout to hold off the classy Rangirangdoo.

Continuing to prove competitive in the best of company, Drumbeats was a close up fifth in the Gr.1 Epsom Handicap, fourth in the Gr.1 Doncaster Handicap, third in the Gr.2 Theo Marks (behind More Joyous) and third in the Gr.2 Crystal Mile on W.S Cox Plate Day.

And during his final campaign last spring, he added to his already impressive tally the Gr.3 Bill Ritchie Handicap. After travelling wide he raced away in the straight to record a soft 2½ lengths victory under a big weight.

“He showed a really good turn of foot,” jockey Corey Brown commented, the Sydney Morning Herald’s Chris Roots adding that “Brown sat three wide before blowing his rivals away on Drumbeats.”

And his rivals that day were a pretty smart collection of gallopers, the placegetters being last start Gr. 3 Cameron Handicap winner Kenny’s World and Captain Sonador who was to win the Gr.1 Epsom Handicap at his next start. They were followed home by Group winners Pureness, Brilliant Light and McClintock and the Gr.1 performers Cannonball and Fist of Fury.

Peter Snowden always had a high opinion of Drumbeats, a horse he described as “having a great attitude.”

“He is a very talented horse,” he said – “he puts himself into a race and hasn’t he got a turn of foot!”

A three times stakes winner, four times stakes placed. Honest, tough and able to hold his form from his first start to his last. Oh and what a pedigree!

Drumbeats is one of an incredible 20 winners from 22 runners bred on the outstandingly successful Redoute’s Choice/Last Tycoon cross.

That’s a 90.90% winners-to-runners strike rate compared to Redoute’s Choice’s overall stats of 75% and to Last Tycoon’s broodmare sire strike rate of 58.1%.

And it’s a great black type strike rate too – six stakes winners (Drumbeats, Dariana, Shaaheq, Estee, Lucky Unicorn, Provence) and two stakes placed (Strong Choice and Tracy’s Choice)… thanks much to the influence of the famed matriarch Best In Show, fourth dam of Redoute’s Choice and grandam of Last Tycoon’s sire Try My Best.

We all know what a great sire Redoute’s Choice ( pictured) is with his 19 Gr.1 winners and progeny earnings in excess of $67.1 million.

And now he is turning out to be an influential sire of sires, already seven of his sons – Stratum, Snitzel, Not a Single Doubt, Nadeem, Bradbury’s Luck, Al Samer and Coats Choice – siring stakes winners.

You only have to take a quick look last Saturday’s Golden Slipper field to appreciate his influence – five of the runners being by Redoute’s Choice stallions!

Last Tycoon meanwhile keeps proving his worth as a broodmare sire with a mammoth 122 stakes winners including 24 Gr.1 winners including last season’s Horse Of The Year Typhoon Tracy and globe-trotting multiple Gr.1 winner Sun Classique.

Drumbeats is from Delicate Choice, a daughter of the wonderful race mare Arborea. The best filly of her generation – winner of the Gr.1 VRC Oaks and Gr.1 1000 Guineas (as well as three other Group races), Arborea has proven an excellent broodmare with six winners including the very tough Delta Form who won at Gr.2 level in the US (also twice Gr.1 placed) and at Listed level in South Africa.

Arborea’s dam, the imported Alleged mare Open Question, also made her mark at stud with nine winners from as many to race – including the Gr.2 gallopers Paris Dream and Binding as well as the stakes placed The Golden Greek.

This is a family that has been strong over many generations, Open Question’s dam Lady Eleanor a dual Group winner in the US.

As the pioneers of stallion syndication in Queensland, Lyndhurst boasts a long and strong record of standing outstanding stallions – from Smokey Eyes, Hail To Success, Head Over Heels and Grand Chaudiere to Celestial Dancer, Canadian Silver, Sequalo and Hidden Dragon.

Shares in Drumbeats are on offer and those interested in further information should contact Jeff (0429 076 610) or Griff (0427 010 096) Kruger at the farm.

Drumbeats will stand at a fee of $7,700 inc. GST.

Guineas Winner Beats Drum For Lyndhurst’s New Sire

Guineas Winner Beats Drum For Lyndhurst’s New Sire

Tai Tai Tess, the Robert Smerdon trained multiple owned filly who has raced on six occasions and won her last four outings, including a 1200m event by 3.3 lengths at Sandown on August 28 and the Morphettvile Guineas at Adelaide on Saturday, is by the Zeditave sire Magic Albert (Yarraman Park, Scone) and from Tycoon Tess, a Last Tycoon winning sister to Delicate Choice, dam of the Redoute’s Choice stallion Drumbeats, a new sire at the Kruger’s historic Lyndhurst stud at Warwick.

Tycoon Tess and Delicate Choice are also half-sisters to the Marscay gelding Delta Form, another Australian bred horse to perform well at Group1 level in the northern hemisphere. After scoring in six of 18 races in South Africa, including two Listed events, and placing in three Group 3s, he ran nine times in America for two wins, one the Del Mar Handicap-Gr.2, and two Group1 thirds, the Belmont Turf Classic Invitational and Hollywood Turf Cup.

Bred and raced by the Kelly’s Newhaven Park stud, their dam Arborea was one of the best of her time, her eight wins including in successive outings the Victoria Oaks (by 1.8 lengths), Caulfield Thousand Guineas and Wakeful Stakes.

Arborea has valuable breeding, being by Imperial Prince, an English Derby and Irish Derby runner up by Sir Ivor, a sire also in Redoute’s Choice’s pedigree, from Open Question, an American bred daughter of two times Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Alleged.

Besides Arborea, one of the best racehorses under the first dams of the new Lyndhurst sire Drumbeats has been this big, strong bay himself. He won the STC Shannon Stakes-Gr.2 (1500m), AJC Bill Ritchie Stakes-Gr.3 (1400m) and VRC Springtime Stakes-LR (1400m), landed second money in the AJC Roman Consul Stakes-Gr.2 (1200m) and MRC Gothic Stakes (1400m), third in the MVRC Crystal Mile-Gr.2 and STC Theo Marks Stakes-Gr.2 (1400m), fourth in the AJC Doncaster-Gr.1 (1600m,1.8 lengths, 20 runners) and fifth in the AJC Epsom Handicap-Gr.1 (1600m).

Drumbeats, initial fee $7,700, appeals as one of the best bred and performed racehorses to stand at Lyndhurst, home also at this time of the proven sires, both locals, Sequalo (by Rustic Amber) and Hidden Dragon (Danehill),

Mares by Sequalo and other Lyndhurst recent sires, Canadian Silver (Can) (Geiger Counter, Mr. Prospector) and Celestial Dancer (IRE) (Godswalk) could go well with Drumbeats, a sire who will benefit from solid patronage and who looks a good prospect to continue the stud’s imposing record.

Drumbeats Off To A Great Start At Stud

Unheralded support from breeders to Drumbeats standing at Lyndhurst has had some impressive figures to expose on the horse's fertility with more than 60 mares covered last month now returning in foal off the first cover.

The next few seasons will be his cheapest as breeders await the progeny to make the track. The sire has been given the best opportunity with some of the most notable broodmares the land has to offer and will surely have winners off to early two year old winning careers.

    Drumbeats

It was great to see Hidden Dragon's son, Hidden Warrior earn black type at his first start at Randwick last weekend. The promising two year old ran second to the highly rated Pierro in the Listed Breeders Plate. Meanwhile Hide 'n' Seek from Hidden Dragon's first crop was in winning form at the Gold Coast.

Local news was stallion Bagger Vance standing at Riverside Alton Downs produced filly Anjuree for an outstanding fourth in the Cisco Plate at Eagle Farm in the first two year olds to race this year in town.

She was sold through the Central Queensland Sales bringing $16,000 on behalf of Kenmore Lodge, owned and run by Cameron and Kelly Bond.

Kelly is local trainer John Pointon's daughter who has been buying and breeding horses since she was 14 years old and is a chip off the old block.

What might be significant is, apart from early notice that she is to be a force for the Capricorn Sales race, she is another filly out of a Northern Dancer breed mare to be produced by this cross by Bagger Vance the best and other is Aspiran.

A Hidden Dragon filly La Bella Mor last week won the Palendra Stakes for two-year-olds in Townsville the first race for the season. In fact four Hidden Dragons started in the race and all finished in the top six placings.

In Rockhampton, a Hidden Dragon filly Hidden Prayer runs the fastest time of the morning at the trials leading up to the Breeders Plate at the end of October.

First Two Seasons Successful for Drumbeats

First Two Seasons Successful for Drumbeats

With broodmare owners impressed by his physique and presence, Lyndhurst Stud's Drumbeats has proven extremely popular at his first couple of years at stud.

Serving two full books – a total of 234 mares – Drumbeats is a quality son of Redoute's Choice whose value as a sire of sires is already proven.

One of the mighty Danehill's best, Redoute's Choice has been represented by ten stakes producing sons – the likes of Stratum, Snitzel, Not A Single Doubt. Bradbury's Luck, Duelled and Fast 'N' Famous all siring Gr.1 winners.

What these horses have in common besides being by Redoute's Choice is that they were all classy racehorses – as was Drumbeats.

A $350,000 Easter yearling, Drumbeats displayed immediate ability for Darley.

Drumbeats is one of an incredible 30 winners from 32 runners bred on the outstandingly successful Redoute's Choice/Last Tycoon cross that results in a duplication of the great mare Best In Show. Amongst that impressive tally are ten stakes winners including the Gr.1 winners Master Of Design and Dariana.

Drumbeats is out of Last Tycoon's daughter Delicate Choice whose dam is the Gr.1 VRC Oaks and Gr.1 1000 Guineas victor Arborea – dam of six winners including the tough Delta Form who won at Gr.2 level in the US (also twice Gr.1 placed) and at Listed level in South Africa. Another of Arborea's daughters Tycoon Tess – also by Last Tycoon – is dam of the Listed Morphettville Guineas winner Tai Tai Tess.
