SUPER SEQUALO!

Since the start of October – 37 winners including 12 new winners and two stakes winners – all part of a great run for the always classy and reliable Sequalo.

The second month of spring started off with a bang for Sequalo with two winners on the first Saturday of the month – Red Rae (son of a Canadian Silver mare) a three length winner at Richmond (again successful at Mount Isa at the end of the month – this time by four lengths!) whilst Aunty Flo (whose dam is by Celestial Dancer) won her second race in a row – a three length stroll home at Rockhampton.

A few days later the lightly raced Mayamac dug deep to win her maiden at Ipswich and at her very next outing a month later she took the step up to a Toowoomba Class 1 and won that in soft style by 1.3 lengths.

Within a couple of days of Mayamac’s first win another lightly raced and promising Sequalo was in winning action at Toowoomba – Reilly Blue proving four lengths too strong for his rivals at debut. On the same day in Macau, Mega Form was in winning form over 1200m at Taipa.

And on the following day Tierqualo won at debut at the Sunshine Coast. Subsequently close up in town he won a recent Doomben trial by nearly five lengths.

Another big Saturday followed with Sequalo’s current star Burdekin Blues leading throughout to win over 1000m at Eagle Farm. He then headed to Melbourne where he put on display his natural blistering speed to give his rivals at Listed level a galloping lesson!

Taking out the $150,000 Century Stakes down the famous Flemington straight on Oaks Day, Burdekin Blues gave trainer Barry Baldwin plenty of reason to smile.

“It was an impressive win,” he enthused – “that is what he is capable of.”

Baldwin was keen to see how Burdekin Blues would fare down the straight, the Gr.1 Lightning Stakes in the autumn one of his main aims.

“It was a bit of a hit and run to see whether he could handle Flemington or not,” he said. “And he went pretty good!”

“You will most likely see us down here again in February,” he told the Melbourne press.

Congratulations to Ingham based owner Tom Sheahan who laid down $32,000 at the 2006 Magic Millions Premier (now QTIS 600) Yearling Sale to secure Burdekin Blues who has now won just short of $460,000 in stakes.

On the same day as the first of Burdekin Blues’ two big wins, Sequalo had another metropolitan winner in the shape of Bold Glance (always in control over 1200m at Eagle Farm first up ) whilst at the provincials tough mare Like A Sequalo recorded her 11th victory. On the next day three-year-old filly Poised For Success won her maiden at the Sunshine Coast.

A Toowoomba double on October 23 – Dulbydilla winning the 1200m maiden by nearly two lengths and Ruling Party the 1100m maiden by the same impressive margin.

Sequalos love Saturday racing and on October 24 the breed won another three races – Mega Form successful in Macau, Blackwoods Choice at Doomben (the fifth success of his 11 start career) whilst Snippets Secret simply bolted in at her Toowoomba debut.

Aurora Sky was just impressive the next day, taking out her maiden at Ipswich by three lengths. The Sequalos don’t only win – they win easily!!

Further success in Macau that week – Super Smile in winning form over 1050m. And on the following Saturday yet another treble, Sir Qualified taking out a Toowoomba 2Y0 Hcp at debut, Cawdor Tony successful in an 800m Dalby Class 1 and Red Rae winning his second race from his last three starts.

Another month, another long list of winners – November also a success story for Sequalo. On the day that Burdekin Blues was strutting his stuff in front of a big crowed at Flemington, Stellar Show was in easy winning form at Richmond.

And on Saturday November 7 Mayamac won her second race in a row as did Red Rae the following week. On that day – November 14 – Bronze Tinka broke her maiden at Warwick whilst Mega Form was again in winning form in Macau. Tierqualo won his second from three outings the next day and has since measured up in metropolitan company.

November 21 saw Contested Bid bolt in at the Gold Coast and a few days after that the lightly raced Ruling Party was successful at Ipswich.

The following Saturday was a particularly good day with no less than six winners! Inclusive of a stakes winner – Secrets Untold becoming the newest blacktype winner for his sire.

A particularly tough campaigner who has won 12 races and over $350,000, he treated his rivals with contempt in the Listed Recognition Stakes – racing away by two lengths.

Sequalo’s other winners that day were Pagoda (a 2½ length Toowoomba victory at only his second outing), Like A Sequalo (by five lengths over 1050m), Louqualo (first of two in a row), Just Cinders (at Dalby over 1000m) and Princess Qualo who was so impressive saluting by 1.3 lengths at Eagle Farm.

December began with a bang – Burdekin Blues again! Back home to contest the Gr.3 George Moore Stakes at Doomben, he put on a sizzling display of speed to win the 1200m event by just short of a length in fast time.

“I just let him into his stride and I became a passenger,” said jockey Shane Scriven. “He nearly broke 1.08 seconds – his cruising speed is unbelievable and I’m not sure if I’ve ever ridden one like him.”

More black type getting closer to Christmas – on December 12, a day in which Satula bolted in at the Gold Coast – debutant two-year-old Spirit Of Boom was only just beaten in the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes at Eagle Farm.

Meanwhile at the Magic Millions National Horses In Training Sale a daughter of Sequalo breezed up the fastest time – a sizzling 10.35 seconds. A Malaysian buyer bid to $82,000 to secure the daughter of the Danehill mare Double Strength from the family of the multiple Gr.1 winner Encounter.

THE DRAGON ROARS!

We could not be happier with the start our well credentialled young stallion Hidden Dragon has made with his two-year-olds. Steel Dragon was so impressive at his Townsville debut and connections tell us they are very excited about him – feature autumn racing on his agenda.

Meanwhile Hidden Kisses ran a cheeky race at her Eagle Farm debut, a close up third (without the best of luck) on the heels of a smart trial victory at Doomben. Hidden Run also shows good natural ability, an eye-catching fourth at his Eagle Farm debut. Mystic Dragon has been in the placings at her two first starts – including a third in the Toowoomba Magic Millions. And last Saturday Obsidian Dragon was an eye-catching second at her Morphettville debut.

The progeny of Hidden Dragon really shone at the Magic Millions National Horses In Training Sale. After running one of the fastest breeze up times, a colt out of the stakes placed Donnatelle (dam of the Gr.3 winner Don’t Tell Clang) fetched $110,000 – premier Singapore trainer Don Baertschiger the successful bidder.

The highest priced youngster on the second day of the sale, he was a stand-out for Baertschiger who said “he is a really nice colt. He impressed me in his breeze up – he had a lovely action and he should really be suited to our style of racing in Singapore.”

A good result also for a colt out of Miss Bletchingly from the family of Caulfield Cup hero Viewed. Sold early on the first day he attracted a winning bid of $62,000 to Frank Roberts of New South Wales.

Even earlier that day a gelding out of the Luskin Star mare La Cauchemard was sold for $47,500 to Singapore – his dam a full sister to the Listed winner Sweet Dream Lady.

A STAR IN THE MAKING

Congratulations to Lyndhurst client Doug Newberry whose record as a breeder is impossible to fault – two young horses bred and sold, both recent metropolitan winners!

Three-year-old All Legal, after winning his maiden at Gosford on October 8 stepped straight up to city class – digging deep to win over 1600m at Randwick on October 17.

And on November 7 the Magic Millions bound Star Lass impressed all with her debut victory at Randwick.

“We only gave her the one trial,” said trainer David Payne (sixth at Rosehill in late October) “and she has come on a long way since then.”

Jockey Brenton Avdulla was impressed.

“I was pretty surprised at the top of the straight how well I was going,” he said. “She’s a gutsy little thing and when the gap came she took it well and sprinted clear – it was a good win.”

Sold by Lyndhurst at the Magic Millions (and aimed at that big race in January) for $40,000, Star Lass has a half brother in our draft at next year’s Gold Coast sale – a son of Secret Savings.

MAGIC MILLIONS

At the forthcoming January Magic Millions sale Sequalo is represented by 15 yearlings including the full brother to the Listed winner Holding, a ¾ brother to the Gr.2 mare Sequential Charm, a colt out of a half sister to the NZ Oaks winner Boundless and a half sister to the US triple stakes winner Good Timin Brook.

Hidden Dragon is represented by seven Magic Millions yearlings (and another 50 at the March QTIS Sale) including a filly from the family of Victory Vein, a half brother to the durable stakes placed Hello Possums and a colt from the family of Viewed and Weekend Hussler.

Two also for Carry The Flag at the Gold Coast Yearling Sale – a colt out of a half brother to the high class Hong Kong galloper Natural Blitz and a daughter of the sprint winner Metropole.

A BUSY SPRING!

Everyone at Lyndhurst has had a very busy time – Jeff spending a lot of time on the road with walk-ins for clients to such excellent stallions as
Encosta De Lago, Lion Heart, Tale Of The Cat, Casino Prince, Wonderful World, Beautiful Crown, Snitzel, Hussonet, Not A Single Doubt, Sebring, Lucky Owners, Snippetson, Al Maher and Street Sense.

Closer to home, our clients have sent mares to Jet Spur, Bradbury’s Luck, Real Saga, Easy Rocking, Court Command, Stromberg Carlson, Clang, Cheval De
Troy, Greenwood Lake, Parameter, Red Dazzler and Legal Opinion.

On the home front, Sequalo covered 90 mares including Isobelle Ellen (dam of the stakes winners Shysu and Sequallan), Milady Matty (half sister to Gr.2  mare Sequential Charm), Golf Circuit (dam of stakes winner Down The Wicket), Sera (dam of Rockhampton Cup winner Regal Castenea), Princess Potter (dam of the highly promising Princess Qualo), Laurinel Argie (winner of the Gr.2 Prime Ministers Cup), Winsome Dancer (half sister to Burdekin Blues). Untold (dam of stakes winner Secrets Untold), Zerostar (dam of
recent Sydney 2Y0 winner and Magic Millions contender Star Lass) as well as the stakes winners Whattaroa and She’s a Pipe Dream.

Hidden Dragon covered over 175 mares which would rank him amongst the
busiest sires in Australia. Selected mares include stakes producers Cheer
Girl, Marcovette, Anora Fair, Donna Leila, Traumatic and Dalmaara as well as the stakes performed mares Show A Force, Quizas, Subtle Difference, Gem Dancer, Size Her Up and Secret Beauty. Also part of his harem were Phoenix Lass (half sister to Brisbane Cup winner Desert Chill) and the smart race mares Anastar, Floria, Maizy May, Madam French, Flash Valentine, Merlenes Magic, Jetonova, Hermoine, Northern Friends, Miss Ceeanne, Abnoonoo and Canadian Shuffle.

Carry the Flag unfortunately continues to be most underrated serving only 15 mares. We are however confident that the best is still to come for him, noting that he has a very exciting two-year-old in the shape of Emerald Isle. A last start Toowoomba winner, she has had just the three starts and was close up in metropolitan grade.
